A Certificate of Conformance, commonly shortened to COC or CoC, is a supplier document stating that the delivered product or component conforms to the requirements identified by the supplier for that item or order. In the DVS-G quality process, supplier COC documentation supports the traceability record for the serialized vacuum sensor assembly.
Supplier documentation supports the incoming-component record. The completed DVS-G still goes through Digital Vacuum Systems' own final assembly verification before release.
What is a Certificate of Conformance?
A Certificate of Conformance is generally used to document that a supplier is providing an item in accordance with the applicable requirements, specifications or purchase documentation associated with that delivery.
The exact format can vary by supplier. Depending on the item and purchasing requirements, a COC may include identifying information such as the supplier, part description, part number, purchase-order reference, serial or lot information, statement of conformance, date and authorized signature.
How COC documentation fits into the DVS-G record
The vacuum sensor assemblies used in DVS-G production are supplied with Certificate of Conformance documentation. Because the sensor assemblies are serialized, the supporting supplier document can be retained as part of the component history associated with the finished gauge.
Identifies the organization responsible for supplying the documented component.
Supports identification of the part or assembly associated with the shipment.
Where applicable, helps connect the supplier record to the physical component.
Documents the supplier's statement that the delivered item conforms to the referenced requirements.
From supplier COC to finished gauge
The supplier COC is one link in a larger traceability chain. The serialized sensor assembly is received with its documentation, recorded during DVS-G assembly, and associated with the serial number of the finished gauge.
That finished instrument then undergoes DVS final functional verification before release. The result is a record that connects supplier documentation, serialized component identity and final assembly verification.
What a COC does not automatically mean
A Certificate of Conformance should not be interpreted as a universal certification, third-party approval or qualification for every customer application. It documents conformance within the scope stated by the issuing supplier and the applicable purchasing or product requirements.
Likewise, the presence of supplier COC documentation does not by itself establish that a finished DVS-G is approved for a particular aircraft, defense platform, space program or controlled manufacturing process.
COC vs. calibration documentation
A Certificate of Conformance and a calibration certificate serve different purposes. A COC is a supplier statement of conformance. Calibration documentation typically addresses measured instrument performance against defined reference standards and test conditions.
Customers should not assume that a COC is interchangeable with calibration documentation. If a process requires specific calibration records, certification intervals or traceability to defined standards, those requirements should be confirmed separately.
Why the document matters
In quality-sensitive manufacturing environments, supporting documentation helps preserve the history behind the finished instrument. If a question later arises about the serialized sensor assembly used in a gauge, the COC contributes to the documentation trail associated with that component.
- Supports incoming-component documentation.
- Strengthens serialized component traceability.
- Provides a retained supplier record associated with the component.
- Complements DVS final assembly verification.
Aerospace, defense, space and other controlled programs may define specific documentation, calibration, certification or approval requirements. Customers should verify those requirements for their own process. DVS supplier COC documentation supports traceability but does not replace program-specific requirements.
